I recorded a few test wav files using the new Audio Applet. I used the u-law (8-bit, 8KHz, mono, CCITT u-law) format to wav.

It plays back in windows media player, quicktime, etc fine.

However, I have tried using a couple of command line audio editing programs (such as sox) and they fail to process the file. They give me the error "Could not find the data chunk". These same programs are able to successfully edit the old Wav Recording Applet files just fine. Is there missing or badly ordered header information in the file?

I dunno if it helps, but I opened some working files that do work in notepad and copied out the first few characters (and I did the same for the non-working new files). I'm not sure if it will display correctly or help at all. Sorry if it doesn't help.

OLD FILES, THIS DOES WORK:

I cannot update to the new Audio Applet until this is fixed. We rely on the files being VALID 8bit u-law files, and the files produced by the new Audio Applet are not valid. They work on SOME players, but not on strict players that will only play valid files.

'fact' chunk was missed. In general it is no necessary chunk, but some programs need it as we see.
I added 'fact' chunk. You can download updated SDK with new jar now. I hope it works.
